Tunnel at Rostock main station, Germany

Rostock's main station has to be underpassed by a new tram route.

Within the scope of the extension of the metropolitan tram network to Suedstadt, Rostock's main station has to be underpassed by the new tram route. Our company has elaborated the preliminary design of the main station tunnel and the tunnel access ramps together with TransTeC Hannover GmbH. At first the north ramp of the tram route runs in a slope of 40 ‰ in a 160 meters long open trough, then in S-bow with a radius of 130 meters over a length of 132 meters to the change of gradient in a closed tunnel structure. The south ramp joins with a bow of R = 140 meters with an ascending slope of 40 ‰ in a 61 meters long tunnel and afterwards over about 118 meters in an open trough. The deepest point of the tunnel lies about 12 m beneath the existing rail tracks which are still in use during the construction phase. The clear width of the tunnel is about 10 meters.

Due to its multi-function purpose, the tunnel section was developed with 3 levels:

  • Level No. 1 Platforms
  • Level No. 2 Distribution level from tram to platforms
  • Level No. 3 Tram route
