Evaluation of impact of mixed water outlets of the Hanseatic City of Rostock on the water quality of Warnow river.
Motive
The implementation of this task was motivated by the EU Water Framework Directive, put into force in December 2000. This project contributes to stocktaking measures following the aforementioned directive. River basins and their characteristics are analysed and the occurring significant pollution factors are recorded and evaluated. The completion of the works for this stage is scheduled for end 2004.
Target
The condition of the lower part of Warnow river is chemically and physically evaluated and pollution factors are identified. Target of these measures is to achieve a quality, answering the EU Water Framework Directive latest by the year 2015. If the target is not achieved in the final evaluation of the results, the elaboration and implementation of actual water management measures will become necessary.
Investigation area
Investigation area is the lower part of Warnow river with its feeders within the area of the city of Rostock - representing an urban section of the river. Due to the broadening of the fairway to 16 m the lower part of Warnow river is already considered a water body in “significantly changed condition”. Furthermore the inlets from mixed water pipes into the river are of significant importance with reference to the task.
