A multi-purpose arena is to be built to the east of the centre of the German city of Lingen, creating a meeting point for 4,000 visitors. The basic layout, with an oval shape and rising rows of seating all around, is with us since ancient Greece. The design fuses this ancient amphitheatre layout with the functionalities of a modern, multi-purpose facility. Thanks in particular to the building’s size and the transparency and lighting of its exterior, it forms a special, easily recognisable landmark. The external cladding is translucent, and generates curiosity about what is going on inside.
