Skandinavienkai is one of the largest Ro-Ro and ferry ports in Europe with connections from Germany to Scandinavia and the Baltic States. The infrastructural heart of the port are the ferry docks, which are designed with various capacities to enable ships of different sizes to be catered for at the port. The docks have to be periodically upgraded to keep up with increasing ship sizes and to be ready for the future. The Hanseatic City of Lübeck, represented by the Lübeck Port Authority (LPA), has decided to upgrade and expand the existing Pier 5. The aim is to enable Skandinavienkai, for the first time, to cater for ships of length up to 250 m and width up to 38 m.
On behalf of the LPA, Inros Lackner has provided extensive planning and design services for the project. Following completion of the preliminary design and the design approval stages, the project progressed to the implementation stage in 2021. The partnership model adopted for the implementation supports a high level of collaboration among the involved parties, including the client, the construction contractor, and the designer / construction supervisor. In this context, Inros Lackner is also responsible for the local site management and will work on the project until its successful completion in spring 2023.
At the beginning of February 2022, Daniel Günther, the Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein, presented the funding decision, representing approximately 13.3 million euros, to the City of Lübeck. In total, the project is expected to cost around 23 million euros.
