The Baltic 1 offshore wind farm is the first commercial wind energy farm in the German Baltic Sea. The 21 wind turbines off the Darss peninsula, with their capacity of 48.3 MW, supply electricity for approximately 50,000 homes. The wind turbines were erected on monopole foundations, which extend to approximately 25 m below the sea bed in order to ensure the safe transmission of environmental loads (wind, wave and ice forces in particular) to the glacially formed substratum. Inros Lackner developed the design basis for the foundation structures, playing an important role in ensuring the wind turbines’ stability and serviceability. The water-side cable trays were also designed, and complete supervision services provided in relation to safety and to construction work during the installation phase.
