The Bauhaus Museum in Dessau, which opened in 2019, was awarded the title “Museum of the Year 2020” by the International Association of Art Critics (AICA). The jury of the Cologne-based AICA honoured the exhibition concept, which focuses on teaching and learning with creative processes and thus impressively conveys Bauhaus to the present time. The building’s significance from an urban development perspective was also emphasised. Indeed, the building’s design, by the Barcelona firm Gonzalez Hinz Zabala, caused a worldwide sensation. On the project, which cost around 28 million euros, Inros Lackner was responsible for the planning and design of the technical building systems. The exhibition areas required highly sophisticated technical solutions. Key aspects of the energy concept included a combination of component activation and air conditioning to ensure climate stability, and natural ventilation of the spacious foyer with its transparent façade.
To receive this award from such respected art critics is a special honour for the work of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation. The current exhibitions and the collection can be viewed online at www.bauhaus-dessau.de.
