Leibniz Research Museum
Technical building systems for extension building in Bonn

The Alexander Koenig Zoological Research Museum (ZFMK) of the Leibniz Institute for Biodiversity is currently being expanded. In Bonn, an extension building is being constructed as a centre for molecular biodiversity research, complete with a data processing centre and wet labs. The multifunctional entrance area can also be used as a conference venue. On this project there is a strong focus on sustainable construction.

Inros Lackner is responsible for the design of the project’s heating, ventilation and sanitation aspects and for the extended laboratory design, as well as for the specialist construction supervision. A special challenge is posed by the exclusiveness of the technical equipment. This involves, for example, the cryotechnology required by the biobank, the fish farming technology of the ichthyology research field, and the safety aspects of the ventilation systems for the collection areas in which biological samples will be stored in formaldehyde.

At the end of March 2022, with the main structural work completed, work commenced on the installation of the technical building systems.
