After about one and a half years of construction, the renovation work on the 300m-long and 70m-tall Rosshaupten Dam has been successfully completed. The official opening ceremony with numerous guests in attendance took place in September, although the construction work had been completed and the dam opened to traffic at the end of July, in time for the summer holidays in Bavaria.
Inros Lackner was responsible for supervising the renovation work on this dam of Germany’s largest reservoir, the Forggensee. The demands on the designers and the Inros Lackner construction supervision team were great, as there is hardly any experience with dams of such dimensions in Germany. The Rosshaupten Dam was built in 1954 and forms the head reservoir for the Lech power plant chain. The renovation, for client Uniper Kraftwerke GmbH, was necessary to ensure the reservoir’s reliability. The renovation project has significantly enhanced the region’s long-term flood protection, and also provides around 48,000 households with renewable hydropower energy.
