Groundbreaking
Start of construction of Rostock region’s new fire service headquarters

With an official groundbreaking ceremony, the construction work for a new fire service HQ to serve the Rostock area of northern Germany began in early March 2020. In the new building complex, the training and technical management of the region’s 164 individual fire departments will be brought together under one roof and adapted to current standards. The Rostock district administration is investing 14 million euro in the new facility.

Inros Lackner is responsible for the project’s planning and design work. "It is a multifunctional building - that was the particular challenge", explained project manager Christian Schulz at the ceremony to representatives of the local political and business worlds. The two-storey building, with its footprint of 3,100 square meters, was designed to functionally integrate offices, training rooms, workshops, a vehicle hall, accommodation, a dining facility and storage rooms for four different building users - the district fire service association, the district’s fire protection service, the fire brigade headquarters and the region’s civil protection service.

In addition to the complex building design work, Inros Lackner is also responsible for the design of the external facilities. "Six different training areas and an all-weather athletics track for competitions are being constructed", stated Schulz. In addition to a firefighting water pool, there will also be a ladder tower and a specially sealed paved area for accident simulation.

The structural work is expected to begin in June 2020, and completion is expected in the second half of 2021.
